Remember: renewing forfeits your PARF rebate permanently. If your car still holds significant PARF value, compare a sale price against the renewal cost before committing.

Renew, sell, or let it go?

Renewing makes sense when your car is mechanically sound and its PARF rebate is small — common for cars bought with high COE premiums and low OMV. Selling wins when the used market values your car above its paper value, which happens when COE prices are high, as they are now. Run the numbers in the true cost calculator, and check where premiums are heading on the trends page before you commit.

COE renewal FAQ

How much does it cost to renew my COE right now?
At the September 2026 PQP: Cat A $126,208, Cat B $128,697, Cat C $92,907, Cat D $10,366 for 10 years — or exactly half for 5 years. PQP changes on the first working day of each month.
Should I renew for 5 or 10 years?
10 years costs double upfront but keeps the option to renew again and holds resale value better. A car on a 5-year renewal must be deregistered at the end — no second renewal. Motorcycles and commercial vehicles can renew 5-year terms repeatedly.
Do I lose my PARF rebate when I renew?
Yes, permanently. That is the hidden cost of renewal — if your ARF was high, the forfeited rebate can outweigh the savings versus buying again. The calculator note above links to a valuation check before you decide.
Can I pay the PQP in instalments?
Several banks and finance companies offer COE renewal loans of up to 100% of the PQP, typically over 5–7 years at flat rates similar to used-car loans. Work out repayments in the car loan calculator.
